Commanders:
The following is the official statement from the Regiment regarding our deployment. This information is to be passed on to your soldiers and their families:
"The 278th ACR has been alerted for possible mobilization/deployment to the Iraqi Theater of Operations. At this time we have not received a specific deployment date but we do expect to be mobilized in early fall (October 2009) to begin training. Once mobilized we expect to be on active duty for a period of 12-14 months. This includes one month of training at home station and one month of leave following the deployment. The entire Regiment will deploy. Our mission will be consistent with that of an Armored Cavalry Regiment which is reconnaissance and security."
In addition to the statement above you can let our soldiers know that we anticipate a federal mobilization date of November 6, 2009 but that date is not locked in stone and may actually shift to an earlier date. We will have a period of pre-mobilization training that will begin about 30 days prior to the mobilization date. That training will take place in Tennessee. We then expect to mobilize and train at Camp Shelby prior to the deployment. The mission we expect to receive is the SECFOR mission. In a SECFOR mission we will generally be engaged in providing security to our sister US forces.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Roger out.

SECFOR is good--"security force" in support of other people.
Now that that is all out there, we can all expect that that is exactly how it won't happen.
SUCKS just means this sucks!
You've got to be kidding me. Just what you need - to be alone raising 4 kids while your husband is off fighting the bad guys!
I agree, that's not a very nice thing to receive at Christmas!
