And Then We Were Home

Realizing that I would need to now grow my own wheat in order to mill it, to make my own flour, to bake my own bread, garden box completion hit overdrive.

We are stained.
We are leveled.
We are lined.
We are on the schedule for a dirt pour.
We are mapping the beds.
We built a fourth.
Horticulture is now a YouTube-able class in our home.

Before We Were Home: The End

And within less than 24 hours we were told school would go on before we were told it wouldn't.
So we spent Day 1 doing a very deep clean, before we realized fully that we may have needed to hoard some cleaning products.

Before We Were Home Part II

I make breakfast twice a week.  Cereal and granola bars otherwise.
I was thinking to myself that I was going overboard with the Egg in the Eye the other morning.

And then this was left by 7 am when they all fled the house.

Such folly, all of this food.  I was standing in the bread isle last week with another man, staring at empty shelves and just kind of being in wonderment.  "I was going to give my wife a break and make hamburgers.  I don't know what to do."  I would have suggested Egg in the Eye, but there was nothing there.

Before We Were Home

Conversations with Nick:

"How was stock trading in class today?" (a class exercise he had told me was going to happen)
"Pretty good.  I made about 40%."
"I'd say that is pretty good.  How did you do it?"
"Well, I bought telephone low and sold high."
"Well that doesn't always work, well done."
"Yeah, but we're studying the Great Depression.  So I knew when the crash was coming.  Oddly, even though that was the point, a lot of kids still didn't put it together."

Good to pay attention in class.  Well done.

We don't look at the markets for real right now.
I will be looking for FDR New Deal related YouTube videos this week, in order to do something.

Crafty

While I was at the store the other day, a request came in for balloons.

I somehow thought we were over balloons here, but it turns out they help make a nice bowl for blueberries.

Happy Spring

During recent travel for me, the kids had a legitimate snow day off school...
Legitimate for the South, at least.
