For My Northern Friends

The punchline: two of three school systems in our area are closed today due to the snow emergency. Daycare told me this morning to keep my phone close because they may close early due to the cold. (?)
And the Benjamin twist:
When we walked out to get in the car I got this: "Mommy, I like snow!"
When we got out of the car to go in to daycare, "Mommy, I don't like this snow."
From Nicholas: "Ben, this is the same snow."
Benjamin: "No it's NOT!"
And the argument began before we even began our day.

Technically, you know, the kid is right. Maybe Ben is a very literal thinker.

Ben is just argumentative. When I drove up under the awning for drop off today, he insisted that we park in the lot so that he could walk in the snow. No problem. When I opened the door to get everyone out on the building side of the car, he argued that he needed to get out the other side of the car in "this other snow." I drew the line there.

It is 3 degrees here and we have maybe 6 inches of snow. Now, our snow is nice! I think Ben would like our snow. Come on up! You're welcome anytime!

Ben just wants a bit of control or maybe he's just perverse.

Aren't we Memphibians just a big fat joke? Close schools for COLD? Whaaaa? Do we close them for HOT? Perverse.

Ben hasn't seen what real snow is. We will be having a high of below zero today and have 30 inches of snow on the ground. We can't get out of the house. Susan, show the kids the e-mail I sent you today of snow in Fargo. It will blow your minds.

Mom, is that you? Or are you trying to claim anonymous since Joyce gave that name up...

Susan, did you ever tell me you were from FARGO?!!!! I'm sure I would have tried to make fun of you for that since, really, I didn't know anyone was FROM there! Sorry, Grandmom. Brrrrrrr. (Grand, you can have my old moniker.)

I don't like THIS snow either. Or THIS cold. Better yet, I don't like THIS city. They shut down everything for a dusting of snow and because "it's going to get colder as the day goes on." So what? I think the Memphis City Schools were smart to send them on to school, yet stupid to close school early. It happens at least once a year. I guess I should be used to it by now ;)

Nah, my parents got confused at retirement time and moved North instead of South. I was bred a Cornhusker. I think Nebraska is where all of the snow is.
