Conversations with Ben

"Mom, you have many arduous tasks."

And then a smile creeps into his face.

"See mom, I'm learning all sorts of new vocabulary these days. Aren't you proud of me?"

Conversations With Ben

We've been shopping new churches, which is super fun because we get to expose the kids to a huge range of how people worship.

This Sunday:
Me: Well, we were a little overdressed.
Ben: No.  No, mother.  They were all underdressed!

Ben, some days you make me feel like I may have done a thing or two correctly.

Alida Heaven

We used to seemingly only go to the zoo to give Alida a carousel ride.

She is still in heaven.

Nick, well I don't know what he is doing.  After the smile during the 200 foot drop, he can't be terrified by this.

Ben took one look at this thing while it was going by, turned to me and said:
"Oh that's great mom.  Real appropriate for little kids."

More Ben Logic

As we're driving somewhere, waiting at a stop light, a girl is jogging toward the intersection just about to cross the road in front of us.

Ben: Is that a girl or a woman?
Oh, that's a teenager!  That's not either.  Teenagers are just alpha-kids, and are annoying.  They're just evolved kids."

More Ben Logic

After some discussion, this:

Ben: You're right smarty girl.
Me: See, I'm not always wrong.
Ben: Hey, mom.  You know why I called you smarty girl?
Me: Why?
Ben: Well, you know how some people say "smarty pants"?  Well, I don't happen to think you are a pair of pants.

Conversations with Ben

"Ben, I'm going to take a quick shower.  Can you and your brother keep from killing each other?"
"Nope, mom.  We'll kill each other.  I guess no shower for you."

It's So Cold

Accepting that the weather would never dip below 80 here, I dressed them in their shorts and t-shirts for school the other day.

When they hit the chilly 74 degrees outside, I heard:

"Moooooom!"
"It's SO cold!  I'm freezing to death."
"We need jackets!"

and my favorite

"You should have never put us in shorts mom!"

Brother.

Elaine is in a 2T jacket there because it was all I could dig up on such short notice.

They are adjusting a little better than I.

Found on my phone.

When we re-organized/expanded the movie holder to put all of their movies in one place last weekend, Ben re-discovered Star Wars.

Seeing the movie, he exclaimed. And then, he knelt down and kissed the movie about ten times in a row. You can bet that if he is first up on Saturday morning, that is the movie that goes in the DVD player. Alas, poor guy is usually last out of bed these days.

Culture

It took us over a year to hook the iPod up in the robot van, but once Patric did music flowed.
And then this during Wagner on the way home from preschool:
From Ben: "TURN IT OFF!!! Daddy, it sounds like someone is going to die!"
From their father: "Well Ben, you're right!"
(and aside to me from Patric singing) "Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit!"
Warner Brothers, bringing culture to my generation, one disjointed cartoon at a time.
